Police investigating double murder in Murray, KY

MURRAY, KY — A Murray man is facing charges for allegedly killing two women and strangling a dog.

Around 9:47 p.m. Thursday, Murray police were called to Catalina Drive on report that a woman was found dead in a garage.

Officers found the woman deceased in the door area of the garage and learned that she possibly lived next door.

Officers went to her home and found a second woman dead inside. During a search of the home, a suspect was found in the bathroom.

That man, 51-year-old Shannon Scott of Murray, was arrested without incident. He was taken to the Calloway County Jail.

In a criminal complaint, Murray police say it appears Scott forced his way into the home and stabbed one of the women, who they confirmed as his girlfriend, multiple times while she was sitting in a chair.

The girlfriend ran outside to get help but died at the neighbor’s garage.

Police go on to say Scott “sliced the other woman’s throat and killed her dog.” He then “attempted to hide the crime by mopping, using the shower, and hiding the dog’s body.”

The complaint also described a large amount of blood splattered throughout the home.

Scott was charged with two counts of murder, 1 count of burglary, tampering with physical evidence, and animal cruelty.

Autopsies on the two victims will be done Friday in Louisville. We are not reporting their identities at this time. We’ve spoken to members of the family, and they requested we withhold that information until they can notify family members who don’t live in the area. Our decision is out of respect for that request.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Murray Police Department at 270-753-1621.
